So, for my first attempt at journalism and sports reporting, here is the info on today's record breaking extravaganza......

Out of 6 riders, there were 2 dns. The field of four were Jim Hopper, Pete Holland, Geoff Booker, and Gavin Hinxman, who not only works for Mercedes AMG Performance Powertrains, but I can confirm is also powered by one.

Results as follows:
1) Gavin Hinxman 1:53:25
2) Geoff Booker 2:13:55
3) Jim Hopper 2:26:35
4) Pete Holland 2:27:56

New course record for Gavin, beating Barry Charltons record by 46 seconds, as well as setting a new vets national record. Gutted though, at missing the national comp record by 13 seconds!

However, on a course that boasted something like 14 or 15 roundabouts, including three very tight small roundabouts, and a race start that consisted of maybe riding for 200 yards before having to virtually stop and double back on yourself, it was an astonishing ride. I rode that course years ago in an evening when there were many lorries to pull you along - hardly any at all this afternoon.

And.......as Gavin started last of the trikes and fourth man off, with a big field of two wheelers behind, he caught the others within 5 miles, and then was at the head of the field for 45miles, with no one challenging him, and no one in the distance to chase down. And it was nice to see that no one on a falling down machine caught him, and he was first man back!!

What about the others?

Geoff's ride too was pretty useful........on a Facebook page he himself says that he was happy with "a 16 year PB and a West Vets age record at 69". No tri bars, no covered wheels either. What he didn't say though, was that technology let him down, and he was having problems with his cycle computer, so he had no idea how fast a speed he was averaging!! PS - remember to charge it up the night before next time Geoff Laughing

And what of the other two stalwarts of the triking fraternity? Great rides, I couldn't do those sort of times when I was an able bodied 18 year old! Jim even admitted that at one point, he ran out of gears and he could have gone faster! positive Some would say you might have gone even quicker with an aero helmet though.......

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. It's past my bedtime. And Gavin's, since he's racing again tomorrow.......

MM, I am sure if both us and the Tour changed our events to Sportifs (ves?) and charged the price of a new front wheel to enter then they would be fully covered by the Beano or whatever comic it now resembles.

Mark you phoning in a report from Newbury next Saturday  positive haha not quite your patch.

Don't know what excuse I could come up with Gaz. Yesterday it was wife and daughter wedding dress shopping, so a good reason to escape!  Mr. Green

Hi Bumpy Very Happy , Only one thing worries me about you using Mark's photo is that Gavin will have aged somewhat by the time the results get posted on the TA site? Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes .
